During a rousing game of (drunken) Scattergories, the letter “R” was rolled and one of the questions was “Notorious People.” My friend answered “Mr. Rogers”. I called bullshit. Notorious has a negative connotation. I was told I was wrong, that notorious is just another word for “famous”. This is wildly incorrect: If Mr. Rogers were a known child molester then yes, he would be considered notorious. I offered ample data to support my argument like the definition of the word and anecdotal evidence such as, “Well then, why would Biggie Smalls call himself ‘Notorious B.I.G.’!?” Anyway, am I right or am I wrong here?
